Differences Between FRP Water Tanks and Stainless Steel Water Tanks


FRP water tanks and stainless steel water tanks have their own unique advantages and areas of application.


Materials and Characteristics:


FRP water tank: a new composite material made by wrapping the glass fiber as the reinforcing agent and the resin as the adhesive, controlled by a microcomputer machine. This material has the characteristics of light weight, high strength, good insulation, good electrical and thermal performance, corrosion resistance, aging resistance, and flexible design. The FRP water tank can be customized according to the use environment and storage medium, with strong adaptability. It has resistance to atmospheric, water, and general concentrations of acid, alkali, salt,various oil and solvents. Its relative density is low, but its tensile strength is close to or even exceeds that of carbon steel, and its electrical insulation and thermal conductivity are lower.

The stainless steel water tank is made of stainless steel sheet, with the characteristics of corrosion resistance, high strength, long service life, and good sealing performance. The stainless steel water tank is usually made of food-grade materials 304 or 316, with the performance advantages of anti-corrosion, clean water, high strength, anti-leakage and anti-shock, non-rusting, and beautiful appearance. However, due to the reasons of metal leakage and poor heat insulation, its service life is slightly shorter. 


Function and application:


Glass fiber reinforced plastic tanks are commonly used in chemical processes, food industry, etc. due to their corrosion resistance, light weight, and good insulation. They are used to store strong corrosive substances such as acids and alkalis. They are widely used in places where water quality is high, such as large hotels and restaurants, government offices, apartments, sanitation and electronics industries.


Maintenance cost:

The maintenance cost of glass fiber reinforced plastic tanks is relatively low because of their light weight, and convenient installation, transportation, and maintenance.

The maintenance cost of stainless steel tanks is relatively high due to their heavy weight, requiring more time and labor for installation, transportation, and maintenance.


Environmental friendliness:

Glass fiber reinforced plastic tanks: Due to their high recyclability and minimal impact on the environment, they meet modern environmental protection concepts.

Stainless steel tanks: Stainless steel is a green and environmentally friendly material that does not release harmful substances and is harmless to both humans and the environment.
