Activated carbon is also used as a catalyst for adsorption reactions due to its catalytic activity. Its surface contains specific oxygen compounds, which can catalyze a variety of reactions; it can also form complexes with supports, greatly increasing catalytic activity; and because of its stable nature, it is often used as a catalyst carrier.
